The Newport Jazz Festival, was founded by jazz pianist George Wein in 1954 as the first outdoor music festival of its kind devoted entirely to jazz, and is now universally acknowledged as the grandfather of all jazz festivals. 

Scheduled to appear on August 5 are: Tedeschi Trucks Band, Maria Schneider Orchestra, Jason Moran, Kurt Elling, Miguel Zenon, Jenny Scheinman & Bill Frisell, Ambrose Akinmusire Quintet, Rudresh Mahanthappa's Samdhi, Gretchen Parlato & Lionel Loueke, John Hollenback's Claudia Quintet, 3 Cohens: Yuval, Anant & Avishai Cohen, Vince Giordano & The Nighthawks, Lewis Nash Quintet, Ryan Truesdell's Gil Evans Centennial Project.
